Christmas Vocabulary




wreath

a circular band of flowers or leaves twisted together for decoration.

garland

a wreath or chain, made to be worn for celebration or decoration, usually made of flowers, leaves or vines.

eggnog

a drink made of eggs, milk or cream, sugar, and usually, liquor.

present

something given as a gift.
gift something that is given to someone. Another word for present.
tinsel thin strips of shiny material that looks like shiny metel or foil used for decoration especially at Christmas.

decoration

an adornmanet or ornament that is used to beautify.

North Pole

the northermost point on the earth; according to myth, the North Pole is where Santa Claus lives.
ornament something added to improve or enhance the appearance.

Santa Claus

an imaginary person who, according to myth, delivers gifts on Christmas eve; also know as Ole Saint Nick.

fireplace
the part of a chimney that opens into a room and in which a fire is built.

chimney

a vertical structure containing a passage which allows smoke and gases to escape from a fireplace or furnace.
mistletoe an evergreen plant having white berries that grows as a parasite on various trees, used as decoration at Christmas.

reindeer

a large deer of northern artic regions, used as a work animal. It is believed that reindeer pull Santa's sleigh.

sleigh

a light, usually open vehicle on runners, used for traveling over ice and snow.

carol
