Independence Day Vocabulary

 


1) blue: The color of the sky. Also the color of the field of stars on the flag of the U.S.A.

2) eagle: A large bird of prey.

3) fireworks: any combustable or explosive devices used for producing a striking display of light or a load noise.

4) flag: a piece of cloth used as a symbol of a nation.

5) freedom: exemption or immunity from controls.

6) independence: freedom from the control of others.

7) July: the seventh month.

8) Old Glory: A name for the flag of the U.S.A.

9) Parade: a large pulic procession usually of a festive nature.

10) picnic: an outing that includes the eating of food in the open air.

11) star: a figure having five or six points radiating from the center.

12) stripe: a band or streak different in color or material from the rest of a surface.

13) white: The color of 6 stripes on the flag of the U.S.A.

14) Colonist: a member of a colony, what the first settlers in the Americas from England were called.

15) liberty: freedom from external control or interference.

16) red: The color of 7 of the strips on the flag of the U.S.A.
