Vocabulary: What is Culure?



ancient times_noun: usually when the term ancient times is used it refers to before recorded history.

communicate_verb: to tell someone your thoughts or feelings through the use of language - either spoken, written or sign language.

dialect_noun: a variation of a langauge that is different from the standard language spoken within a geographical location. For example, in the United States of America, a southern dialect sounds different from a mid-west dialect.

diet_noun: the type of food one eats.

folklore_noun: a collection of stories that reveal the traditional customs, beliefs and legends of a culture.

habitat_noun: the natural place where an animal, plant or person lives.

oral tradition_compound noun: a story that is passed on verbally, but not by writing it down on paper.

prepare_verb: to make ready. For example, to cook, prepare a meal.

recognize_verb: to know: If one recognizes a person then, one identifies that person because of their characteristics or appearance.

reveal_verb: to show or to let someone see something that was hidden.

seasoning_noun: the spices and salts that are used to flavor food are seasonings

traditions_noun: any belief, legend, or custom that is handed down from parent to child for many generations is a tradition. The Kimono, a style of formal dress in Japan, is traditional because it has been part of Japan's culture for many, many years.

unique_adjective: a one of a kind, there is nothing else like it.

values_noun: the ideas or principles that are important to a culture.
