| Find the Impostor
Using single vocabulary items or phrases/expressions projected on a transparency or
on a dittoed sheet, students, individually or in small groups, are asked to identify the "impostor." Then they can be asked to explain
why the word is an 'impostor' and assign a name to the remaining words. This help the students understand categories while reinforcing
known vocabulary.
Examples:
hat coat banana gloves shoes
shirt book pencil pen ruler
to be hungry to be thirsty to be 16 years old to be happy
Variation 1: Students can be asked to add similar items or expressions to a list of words
Variation 1: Students can be asked to add appropriate synonyms or homonyms to the list.
