At the Doctor's Office

Nurse: Mr......... the doctor will see you now.

Patient: (walking with the nurse) Thank you.

Nurse: (Takes patient to small room where she asks him some preliminary questions)

So what seems to be the problem, Mr........?

Patient: Well, I woke up this morning with a terrible sore throat and a fever. I just really don't feel well at all.

Nurse: I see. Well, let's take your temperature and blood pressure. Hmm..(writing on her chart) your temperature is a little high, but your blood pressure seems to be normal. Any symptoms before this morning?

Patient: No. I felt fine yesterday.

Nurse: Are you allergic to any medications?

Patient: No.

Nurse: Are you presently taking any medications?

Patient: No.

Nurse: (getting up to leave the room) Okay. Wait here and the doctor will be with you in a few minutes. (The nurse leaves the room)

Doctor: (enters room) Hi! I'm Dr. Crawford. How're you today?

Patient: I've been better.

Doctor: So what seems to be the trouble?

Patient: Well, like I told the nurse, when I got up this morning I had a terrible sore throat and felt really bad.

Doctor: I see. Let me take a look at your throat. (Doctor looks down patient's throat) Hmm. Yea your throat is a little red. Are you having trouble swallowing?

Patient: A little.

Doctor: Is there any pain in the chest?

Patient: No, not really.

Doctor: So you aren't experiencing difficulty in breathing?

Patient: No, sir.

Doctor: Well, it's probably just a touch of the Flu bug that has been affecting a lot of people this season. I'll give you a prescription that should take care of it. I also want the nurse to give you a shot of antibiotics. The shot will help you until the prescription begins to take affect.

Patient: Okay. Thank you, Doctor. (The doctor leaves the room)

Doctor: ( to the nurse, while writing on a small piece of paper) Nurse, give Mr...... an injection of penicillin and then give him this prescription (hands the nurse the slip of paper) which he can fill at the drug store.

Nurse: Yes, sir.
