Waiter: Hi. I'm ........ and I'll be your server tonight. Can I get you something from the bar before dinner?
Lady: Yes. I'll have a Margarita on the rocks, please.
Man: And I'd like a bourbon and coke.
Waiter: Okay, I'll get those for you and be right back. (Waiter leaves to get the drinks.)
Waiter:(Placing the drinks in front of the customers) Okay. Here's your drinks. Would you care for an appetizer tonight?
Man:(Looking at the menu) Yea, we'll start off with the combo plate.
Waiter: Okay. And what would you like for dinner tonight?
Lady: What's the chef's special today?
Waiter: The special today is a Chicken Madagascar served with rice pilaf and vegetables. We are also serving a Trout filet baked in lemon butter.
Lady: I'll have the chicken. Does that come with a salad?
Waiter: Yes it does. What kinda dressing would you like?
Lady: Honey mustard, if you have it.
Waiter: Yes, we do. (Turning to the man) And for you , sir?
Man: I think I'd like the New York steak.
Waiter: Okay, and how would you like that done?
Man: Medium, please.
Waiter: And would you like a baked potato with that?
Man: That's fine.
Waiter: And what kind of dressing on your salad?
Man: I really don't want a salad. Can I substitute something else?
Waiter: The only thing that I can sub. for the salad is a bowl of soup.
Man: That's okay. I'll just take the salad with ranch dressing.
Waiter: Okay. Can I offer you a bottle of wine with your dinner?
Man: No. But I would like a glass of iced tea with the meal.
Lady: Yea, me, too.
Waiter: Okay, I'll return in a few minutes with your appetizer. Thank you.
(The waiter collects the menus and leaves the table.)

Margarita........an alcoholic beverage made from tequila and sweet and sour mix
on the rocks....served over ice
combo plate....a plate of several types of food
start off with...to have before the meal, to begin with
appetizer.........that part of the meal that is served before the salad or the main course.
medium..........steaks are prepared according to temperature. A steak that is medium rare is not cooked all the way through. The center is still red and cooler than the outside of the steak.
dressing...........a type of sauce put on salads for flavoring.
dinner..............evening meal. Generally eaten around 6:30pm.
substitute.........to have something in stead of what is offered
sub...................abbreviation for substitute
